Nothing left to chance for this coffee wholesaler
Working with Ringtons allowed this south coast coffee brand to maintain and grow it’s customer base, even in challenging times.
In 2022, Ringtons were challenged to create a range of bespoke private label products that matched the existing blends, but at a more competitive price than its previous supplier.
While this customer has chosen to stay anonymous, they operate as an independent coffee brand in the South Coast and are one of our private label customers.
The client started business in 2016 from a unit based right on the South. They’re a business founded on doing the right thing, with quality products and service as opposed to being very price-oriented.
While 2022 was challenging for many with the cost of living crisis, price increases meant that this client was forced to look to other private label coffee suppliers at the risk of becoming non-competitive with their own pricing.
Ringtons were invited to look at this case via a word-of-mouth connection.
The client said:
I have my own blends of coffee. When I set up with the original roaster in 2016 I told my old supplier what I wanted and they did it. Although I gave them the blends there was no information available to me on things likes the origin of the coffee.
Whereas with Ringtons it’s very much an open book. Stephen is quite happy to say what the origins of the coffee is and what beans they’re using. Which I find a lot better as I can then pass that information on to my customers.
The client sent us a sample of his blend, we had Sadie, our in-house Q-grader, analyse the sample for quality and tasting notes and produced a detailed report on what we thought we could produce.
The client wanted to maintain the quality of his product but wanted to hopefully produce it for cheaper. From the initial sample Ringtons sent back, 90% of customers couldn’t tell the difference.
“Without Ringtons, I would’ve lost a larger proportion of my customers. October last year the previous company put the prices up 25%. In February they put them up another 20% and then in June they put them up 15% – so in less than a year we were looking at nearly 60% worth of increases where with a little bit of haggling with Stephen we have got the price point around where we were back in October 2021.”
After supplying the coffee, Ringtons also helped this client though a packaging resdeign and change. Customers are continuing to comment on how good the new packaging looks.
“From a service point of view, they deliver the coffee when they say they’re going to deliver. There are a couple of times we’re run a bit short and they have rallied around and got me out of a hole where the previous company just weren’t that interested.”
