Authorised SCA Trainer

Born in the US, and after stints in Australia and New Zealand, Kaitlin joined Ringtons in 2022 to help our customers with serving great coffee and providing training to baristas in their own environments.

7 years of experience in the industry – most of that time spent behind a café counter making drinks for customers.

“I love teaching baristas about the exciting world of the coffee supply chain and the journey every bean must take from seed to cup.”

Favourite latte art pattern: “Swan. Next one to learn is the rose!”

Favourite café drink: “I love ordering a pour over when they are offered as I think it gives the coffee a chance to really shine and show off all of the processing it’s been through on it’s journey to the cup.”

Authorised SCA Trainer

Alfie found his passion for coffee whilst travelling Australia 2017 – 2019. Since returning to the UK he invested all his time into coffee. From working in cafes, to roasting specialty coffees, training many individuals and clients.

Favourite latte art pattern: “My go to latte art is a swan however I love the simplicity of a tulip!”

Favourite café drink: “My order – Flat white, guest espresso and a pour over (assuming all 3 are offered) This gives me enough caffeine for the day.”

What do you learn?

Introduction to Coffee is an ideal course for anyone who is new to the coffee industry or just has an interest in this wonderful drink. It charts coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia to the major commodity it is today, enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

From coffee process, roasting, brewing to tasting, this course gives a general overview of coffee’s supply chain. This half day course also includes a “coffee cupping” which allows you to taste the various flavours of coffee.

The Barista Skills Foundation course focuses on the key skills required to set a grinder, make espresso and foam, and texture milk for cappuccinos.

This course allows one to gain an introductory understanding of the coffee itself and set a foundation from which to build practical skills for milk technique and latte art, while implementing health and safety practices and customer service.

The Barista Skills Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course.

It is ideal for someone who has barista skills experience and wants to explore how to improve coffee quality and prepare for more complex job functions found in the barista profession.

The Barista Skills Professional course is designed to test advanced skills and detailed knowledge of the science behind processes used by a professional barista (for example, a barista with 12 months or more of work experience).

Successful candidates will have explored and demonstrated the advanced skills typically expected of a head barista.

All courses can be taken with or without the SCA certificate and can be used towards the new SCA Cafe Diploma. We would recommend certificates for anyone either already working in, or seeking a career in the industry. Please note the quoted price includes the cost of the certificate.
