Being two family businesses with a proud North East heritage – a partnership between Dicksons and Ringtons seemed almost inevitable.

Perhaps most importantly though, both Dicksons and Ringtons are passionate about the quality of their products. Quality ingredients, delicious recipes made with love and care, and a genuine sense of community; it’s our recipe for success.

When Dicksons approached Ringtons looking to improve their coffee and tea offering – we knew we had to do everything we could to help.

Challenge: Improve the coffee offering!

Dicksons had seen impressive growth in their stores, continuing to open up new locations throughout the region. Hot Drinks were identified as an opportunity for improvement, and they wanted to rival similar businesses in this market.

Challenges

Dicksons faced several challenges common to traditional businesses in the food and retail industry, despite their impressive growth:

Competiton: With the rise of the Speciality Coffee market, consumers are becoming more demanding than ever. And alongside this, it’s becoming difficult to find team members who are barista trained.

Finding Quality Products: Dicksons needed to find a partner who are as committed to quality products as they are. And if the products are made in the North East, even better.

Competitive Landscape: Many large chains, some with national presence, are offering a great coffee experience through bean to cup machines. Was this the best way to compete? Dicksons needed to know that whatever solution they landed on was right for them.

Our Approach

Ringtons entered into a strategic collaboration with Dicksons, aiming to provide an outstanding hot beverage to their customers, while making the process incredibly easy for Dicksons employees at each of their 30 stores.

Machines: Installation of M26 traditional espresso machines, and Enea on demand grinders across all sites.

Products: House Blend, Traditional tea, syrups and premium hot chocolate.

Implementation

The implementation phase involved close collaboration between Ringtons and Dicksons team. It encompassed:

Installation: Seamless installation over 8 working days.

Training and Engagement: “Kick Off” training and ongoing support at each location to keep standard high.

Menu Design: We used our suite of products to help Dicksons to launch their coffee.

Results

 

Sales of coffee have risen by 22% in the first month.

And we’re excited to see where the partnership will go.
