Our barista training courses are designed to deliver clear value for both individuals and businesses, combining industry-recognised standards with practical, hands-on learning.

Delivered by the only two SCA Authorised Barista Trainers in the North East, our current programme covers Introduction to Coffee and the full Barista Skills pathway – Foundation, Intermediate and Professional – with additional SCA courses launching in the future.

Courses can be taken with or without SCA certification and count towards the SCA Café Diploma, making them ideal for anyone working in, or aspiring to join, the coffee industry.

Introduction to Coffee

Introduction to Coffee is ideal for anyone new to the coffee industry – or anyone curious about where coffee comes from and how it’s produced.

The course explores coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia through to modern-day production, roasting and brewing. It includes a guided “coffee cupping” session so learners can taste and compare different flavour profiles.

Barista Skills Foundation

The Barista Skills Foundation course focuses on the core skills needed to set a grinder, make espresso, and texture milk for cappuccinos.

Learners build an introductory understanding of coffee, milk technique and latte art – while also covering health & safety and customer service basics.

Duration: 1 day

Experience level: Beginner / early stage

Barista Skills Intermediate

The Barista Skills Intermediate course builds on the concepts introduced in Foundation and is designed for working baristas looking to improve quality and workflow.

It explores troubleshooting, improving consistency and preparing for more complex responsibilities found in barista roles.

Barista Skills Professional

The Barista Skills Professional course tests advanced skills and deeper knowledge of the science behind espresso preparation and milk extraction.

Learners demonstrate the level of competency typically expected of a head barista or lead operator.

Duration: 3 days

Experience level: 12+ months experience

Ideal for: Senior / lead baristas

If you’ve got a question about our barista training courses, you may find the answer here – and if not, our team will be happy to help.

  1. All fees required to be paid to the SCA
  2. Printable Official SCA Certificate upon passing written & practical exams
  3. All supplies and equipment required to take the course
  4. Take home copy of course materials for home/café reference
  5. Lunch & Snacks

Though the SCA does not require learners to take these courses is order, we believe taking the courses in order is essential to supporting our learners’ education.

Not sure which level suits you? Enquire and we’ll point you in the right direction. 

Learner’s do not have to have taken previous courses with Ringtons in order to take the next level in the module. Learners who can provide proof of certificates for previous courses may enroll in the next level of the module.

For the best learning experience, our course sizes are kept small. There is a limit of 5 learners per course.

Courses take place at our purpose-built Ringtons training room in the North East.

We can also discuss on-site training for businesses where appropriate – particularly for team development and workflow coaching.

No experience is needed for:

  • Introduction to Coffee

  • Barista Skills Foundation

For Intermediate and Professional courses, we recommend prior barista experience or previous course completion.

If you’re unsure, we can help assess which level is right for you.

Both!

We regularly train:

  • Café and hospitality teams

  • Hotel and workplace operators

  • Individuals developing their barista skills or progressing careers

Just let us know your situation when you enquire.

No – courses can be taken with or without certification.

However, we recommend certification for anyone:

  • Already working in the industry

  • Developing a professional barista career

Certification costs are included in quoted prices.

Courses require a minimum of three learners in attendance. We reserve the right to cancel an under-enrolled course and issue a full refund with a minimum of one week’s notice.

If for any reason you can’t attend your booked course then we will do everything we can to change your booking to a future date which suits you.

If you require a refund please cancel at least two weeks in advance.

Cancellations less than two weeks in advance will be eligible for a 50% refund. Cancellations within three days of the booking will not be eligible for a refund.
